Atlanta Florist Chooses Freshest Flowers for the Fall
It’s amazing that the summer time seems to go so quickly. The spring, summer flowers and
foliage are beginning to fade as the fall flowers begin to bloom. "Most people think only of
basic flowers in fall, like the simple mum" commented Mark Engel, artisan at Vann Jernigan Florist in Atlanta. (Vjflorist.com) "There are so many other beautiful blooms available in radiant colors that are well suited to fresh cut floral arrangements for the season".
Some examples are the Dahlia, Zinnia and Sunflower in rich colors, such as deep red, pink,
purple and yellow. The Dahlia can have quite an impressive size and will last for long periods
of time in fresh cut arrangements. Zinnias also have a wide variety of color for the fall. They
have the same long lasting bloom and color variety. Of course the very happy face of the
sunflower is always welcome in arrangements for the fall season. These bright domestic blooms come in several varieties and colors starting with traditional rich yellows to warm reds. We often think of Sunflowers as being very large, however the sizes vary from a small to large
blooms. Sunflowers are traditionally a very long lasting flower in a fresh cut bouquet.
Asiatic lilies in bronze, red and yellow will soon be available as well. These lilies don’t have the size and fragrance of a traditional Star Gazer lily but they give a wonderful warm color to any
arrangement.
Filler flowers of the season include Yarrow, Sedum, Bittersweet and Aster. Yarrow is a fragrant
bloom that is long lasting and easily dried. Yarrow is commonly seen in golden yellow and
white but is also available in light pink, purple and violet. Sedum, a related flower to Yarrow, come in vibrant colors that range from a soft melon to purple and red. Sedum will add an elegant finish to any vase arrangement. Bitter sweet is a bright berry available and used in the fall and winter seasons. Some varieties flower with blooms in yellow, green ,deep blue and even purple. Bittersweet adds a lovely, dramatic splash of color in winter months. Lastly remember the Aster. These small daisy like blooms, cluster well together and also last
a good long time. They can be very fragrant and explode in colors of blue, purple, deep pinks,
white, yellow and even China red. Use your search engines to see these examples of Mother
Natures fire works in bloom this season. When ordering cut flowers or just arranging them
fresh picked from your garden, remember that there’s a lot more to choose from when bringing the outdoors in as the nip in the air begins.

Customer Comments and Reviews
Diana Cochran, Author and owner of Vann Jernigan Florist, Inc
"Hello. My daughter sent me 18 of the most beautiful roses last week for my birthday from your shop and I am still enjoying them. They opened gradually and are now in full bloom and are simply breath-taking. A single petal has not fallen off yet. My 87-year old Mom and I have moved them all over my house so we can enjoy them wherever we happen to be! I've taken pictures to send to my daughter who lives in Texas. She's sent me flowers many times over the years. I've never told her how many times the roses (from other florists) have been a disappointment, having died on the stems with wires holding them up til they finally droop over with what looks like broken necks. It's especially sad when roses don't fulfill the promise of an open bloom. My compliments to your discriminating flower selection protocol."

Tropical Arrangements For Summertime Parties
The warm summertime is here and a great season to bring in fresh cut tropical arrangement to a party. What a great way to show your gratitude to your host than to bring a beautiful accent piece. There are several different varieties of tropical flowers that are not only breath taking but long lasting. We often only think of Birds of Paradise with their rich orange- yellow blooms but also remember some other equally vibrant flowers when ordering. Ginger, a vibrant rich red flower, compliment any arrangement beautifully; as do the bright red, white, pink and green varieties of Anthurium. Haliconia and Hanging Haliconia are other flowers that have those rich red and yellows. Don’t forget the Protea that come in a many different varieties; yellow, pink, orange and also a red. Pin Cushion Protea, called that because it looks like bright color pins, available in reds and yellows as well. People forget that there is no hard, fast rule to using only tropicals in an arrangement. Adding some other florals such as Orchids, Sunflowers, Cala Lilies or Parrot Tulips make a nice touch too. Using exotic greens like Banana leaves, Monstera leaves, Cypress and Safari Sunset. Top off a stunning arrangement of tropicals with Bamboo or Curley Maple to make a great finish. For some examples to view, visit vjflorist.com. Mark Engel, a designer at Vann Jernigan Florist in Atlanta Georgia says "Tropical arrangements are the prefect style for out door and theme parties even for the large family get together or wedding". Enjoy the fun, company and summertime food but even more, enjoy the atmosphere. If it is the in-laws you are going to see, we’ll just say, "no comment"

Flowers For Grief And Mourning
The passing of a loved one can be an especially difficult and chaotic time. Death is often unexpected and comes with the sometimes demanding nuts and bolts of planning the funeral and/or sending the proper flower arrangements.
When it comes to sending flowers to a funeral, so many get stuck on what to send, when to send it and where? Here are a few things you need to consider when sending flowers to the funeral of a loved one:
Find out if the deceased is male, female, adult or a child. You want to make sure your flower arrangements are gender and age appropriate. For example, it may be a serious faux pas to send a spray of pink flowers to the funeral of a man.
Find out of if the funeral will be open or closed casket. If there is an open casket you may want to send a casket blanket that covers only half or the casket. But if it is a closed casket funeral, you'll be better off sending a full casket blanket.
One of the biggest dilemmas for people looking for flowers after the death of a loved one is the question of which arrangements are appropriate. Most people haven't attended "lots" of funerals so they may not know what to send. Below are some traditional arrangements:
Standing sprays; flowers arranged on an easel and placed in front of the deceased's casket.
Live plants; traditionally peace lilies.
Fireside baskets of fresh cut flowers.
A vase of cut flowers.
Discuss with your florist what type of flowers (seasonal, variety etc.) is appropriate for your loved one. The florist is usually very helpful and has delivered flowers to many funerals.
Call the funeral home and confirm their address, visitation hours and their delivery guidelines. Have your flowers delivered on the day of visitation and before viewing hours begin.
When sending your flowers be sure to include a card and if you're at a loss for words, here are a few phrases that are completely acceptable and commonly used:
"With Deepest Sympathy"
"Our Deepest Condolences"
"Our Thoughts And Prayers Are With You"
"In Loving Memory"
And don't forget your signature and address on the card, which will make it easier for those in mourning to acknowledge your gift with a thank you note or card.

The Secret Language of Flowers
Diana Cochran, Author and Owner of Vann Jernigan Florist, Inc.
Since ancient times people have used flowers to communicate their feelings, thoughts and ideas to others. Lewis Carroll sent Alice in Wonderland through the looking glass into a garden filled with talking flowers. The ancient Greeks and Egyptians endowed flowers with the power of Gods and the spirit of humanity. Many today give flowers with only a partial understanding of the message the flower holds for the receiver. Below, explore the messages of some of humanity's most cherished flowers.
Thistle, Scotland's national emblem, is a symbol of hard work, suffering and is believed to be a flower capable of dispelling melancholy according to the ancient Greek botanist Diosorides. Thistle is sometimes featured in fairy tales, symbolizing enduring love that can overcome pain, suffering and difficulties.
Iris, a symbol of faith, authority, victory and conquest is also believed to protect from evil spirits. The ancient Greeks named the Iris after a messenger of the Gods who guides the souls of women and girls into the afterworld. Even today, many Greeks place the Iris on the graves of women.
Honeysuckle has stood the test of time as a symbol of lasting pleasure, permanence and steadfastness since the middle ages.
Lily, a flower of purity, has been used as a strong religious symbol especially during the Christian celebration of Easter. According to the ancient Greeks, white lilies were created from the milk of Hera, the mother of Gods.
Tulip, a symbol of spring, wealth and life after death, this flower was originally grown in Persia; but is currently known as the flower perfectly cultivated by the Dutch. During the 16th and 17th century this flower was so sought after that people traded their homes and ships filled with cargo for only a few bulbs.
Roses symbolize love, joy, virtue and beauty; but can also symbolize death as in a single rose on a grave. Cleopatra was said to sleep on pillows filed with rose petals.
Daisies symbolize a sharing of sentiments, childhood innocence, freedom and sweetness.
Giving flowers can send a powerful message. It’s fun to know the message that you're sending with your next gift of flowers.

Springtime Flowers Bring The Fresh Outdoors Inside
(Atlanta, GA) Temperatures are rising, birds are singing and the brilliantly colored flower blooms have arrived. Springtime is here, and everyone is tempted to play hooky just to get a chance to sit in the sun and watch nature awaken after its winter slumber. "Being stuck in an office or at home can become torture in the Spring," said Mark, a designer at Vann Jernigan Florist (http://www.vjflorist.com/) located in Atlanta, GA. "But it doesn't have to be. Simply adding a bouquet of flowers to any décor can bring a bit of the outdoors inside," he added.
When choosing a springtime bouquet, Vann Jernigan Florist recommends flowers that are in season and bred for longevity. "We provide customers with only the best quality flowers and that means, in season and natural varieties," said Diana Cochran, the owner of Vann Jernigan Florist. "Flowers that have been crossbred and grown out of season are not as beautiful, fragrant and just don't last, plus they cost much more than the natural, hardy variety."
Springtime Flowers
Tulips with natural hues such as purple, yellow, white and red, are the queens of spring flowers. Make Tulips the centerpiece of your springtime bouquet and discover what the Dutch already know about these beauties. Tulips are the regal announcement of springtime's arrival.
Snapdragons with their sweet candy-like smell add a bit of childish playfulness to any bouquet. Add a luscious bundle of these soft hued flowers and think of cotton candy on a warm summer day.
Gerber Daisies are just plain fun, with their whimsical pedals and vibrant colors. Placing even one of these in a strategic position can transform any drab space into a cheerful place for the senses.
